"Just over 50 years after his death, the Church today elevates this Italian missionary of the Congregation of Saint Joseph to the honor of his altars," said Cardinal Angelo Amato, in his homily during the ceremony that the cardinal presided which took place at the pavilion of the "Festa da Uva".

The cardinal continued saying that Fr. Schiavo "he sanctified himself here in this Brazilian land, a land of saints and martyrs .... He felt intimately as a Brazilian and spent his priestly and apostolic life in Brazil, where he found strong ground to practice the gospel of Jesus Christ in a heroic way."

He also said that this missionary was a dynamic and creative apostle, the promoter of various social works of his congregation in Brazil, in which he expressed charity and kindness to the poor.
