The terrorist attack was carried out inside the Cathedral: three people died, one of them was decapitated. There are several wounded.

Nice – France ((October 28, 2020 5:15 pm Gaudium Press)The Cathedral of Notre Dame of Nice, in southern France, suffered a terrorist attack today at 9 am, local time.
The attack took place inside the Cathedral, located in one of the busiest avenues of downtown Nice: three people were killed; one of the victims was decapitated.

Mayor of Nice: “A terrorist attack”

According to Cristian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, this is a terrorist attack. Press sources confirmed that a knife was used in the attack and that a man was shot and arrested.

Prime Minister Jean Castex hurriedly left the National Assembly, where he was to present the new measures introduced to confront the coronavirus epidemic in order to attend a crisis meeting called for by Gerald Darmarin, the French Minister of the Interior, to address the attack.
The police are conducting a security operation, as reposted by Darmarin.

French bishops express closeness to the Diocese of Nice and pray for victims

As soon as he learned of the attack, Archbishop Éric de Moulins-Beaufort, president of the French Bishops’ Conference, expressed his sentiments of closeness and solidarity with the Diocese of Nice and its pastor through a tweet: “My very special prayer for the diocesan people of Nice and for Bishop Marceau. May they know how to bear this trial and support those who are tested in their flesh.” While offering his prayers for the victims, The Archbishop highlighted the proximity of the Solemnity of All Saints:

“On Sunday, All Saints, we will hear the Lord: Blessed are those who promote peace; they will be called children of God. Blessed are you who are persecuted for my good. For great is your reward in heaven.” (JSG)
